Position Overview
The Clinical Application Specialist – Lab and Diagnostic Imaging role is responsible for tasks associated with the implementation of Radiology and Lab Information Systems within Kallo’s Integrated Delivery System (KIDS). Kallo’s single integrated Healthcare Management System supports patient care and documentation of relevant data regarding care events; the Healthcare Management System encompasses all key elements of KIDS hospital and clinic services, including clinical, administrative, operations, finance, billing, information management and quality and risk management.
Reporting into the Director - Professional Services and Product Development, The Lab and Diagnostic Imaging Clinical Application Specialist ensures that Kallo’s Lab and Diagnostic Imaging Systems meet the functional requirements of the client country’s health system. The Candidate will serve as a communications intermediary between Kallo’s clinical and application development and support teams. The position will be responsible for design, implementation, training and ongoing support of all Lab and Diagnostic Imaging technologies, including but not limited to PACS, EMR, LIS, RIS.
The Lab and Diagnostic Imaging Clinical Application Specialist will serve as the Lab and Diagnostic Imaging applications technical subject matter expert as well as lead and coordinate all efforts involved with implementation of new and existing technology equipment, software, and databases.
Accountabilities
- Act as a subject matter expert for all aspects of the Lab Information Systems and Radiology Information Systems and the associated technologies.
- The ability to translate clinical requirements to system elements
- Completes technology projects on time, within budget, and with a high level of quality.
- Prepares and maintains policies and procedures for area of responsibility. To include downtime procedures and disaster plans on all Lab and Diagnostic Imaging related technology and data systems.
- Thorough knowledge and proficiency related to PACS, RIS, and LIS technologies.
- Prepares and maintains training materials for PACS, RIS, and LIS technology and data systems.
- Trains staff and end users of PACS, RIS and LIS technology systems.
- Administers application resources to ensure continuous reliability and integrity of system and associated databases.
- Provides consultative suggestions and recommendations to management for continued enhancement of the Lab and Diagnostic Imaging applications and technologies.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate technical training and application instruction programs designed to meet user’s needs. Coordinate resources for schedules, tasks assignments, and allocations of person-hours and equipment to assure compliance with time line and department action plan for new installations or uninstalls if needed.
- Work closely and cooperatively with other departments, vendors, application developers and external customers to coordinate all Lab and Diagnostic Imaging activities for optimal efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain and monitor information systems to ensure the department continuously meets or exceeds all applicable regulatory requirements. Constantly pursues knowledge and self-improvement to maintain professional and technical competency of technology.
- Analyzes new functionality in software releases to determine whether or how it should be used, maintains rules and documentation for how new version is released
- Ability to assess, map, implement, and manage current, new, and emerging automation systems to continually enhance efficiency and decrease potential for error, with an intense focus on patient safety.
- Maintains skill sets, credentials, and licensing requirements needed to perform the necessary job functions at a high level.
- Promotes a positive company image and demonstrates professionalism during interactions with internal and external customers.
- Oversee and manage the prioritizing of functional change requests, reporting and monitoring of issues, and implementation of communication strategies related to Kallo’s RIS, PACS and LIS.
Key Deliverables during First 12 to 24 Months
- Conduct a detailed assessment of the capabilities of Kallo’s PACS and Lab Information Systems and related technologies and provide feedback and recommendations
- Work closely with Kallo’s clinical program leads to identify, analyze, and map radiology and lab workflow to Kallo’s systems and digitally enabled medical devices.
- Lead the implementation of Radiology and Lab systems and technologies in our customer countries
- Develop repeatable support processes for Radiology and Lab related technology and systems
- Coordinate Kallo’s Radiology and Lab Information Systems design, build, testing and implementation.
- Lead development of a Lab and Radiology solutions strategic road map for Kallo, lead review and update of the roadmap on a continuous basis.
- Lead change initiatives in support of the Lab and Radiology road map.
Qualifications and Requirements
- BS Degree in Information Management and/or relevant experience in a hospital setting
- Minimum 5 years hospital Lab and Diagnostic Imaging system experience an asset
- PACS experience, LIS and RIS experience and database management and report writing experience.
- Experience in application development methodologies, software acquisition and implementation required
- Knowledge of chemistry , blood bank, hematology and microbiology in relations systems and asset
- Thorough understanding of MS Office particularly Access, Excel and Word is required
- Report and/or Query Development Skills a plus
- In-depth knowledge of Dicom and Hl7 protocols and interactions
- Knowledge and understanding of Hospital Information Systems with an emphasis on PACS and Radiology and Lab information systems, patient management and statistical reporting modules
- Excellent communication skills
- Bilingualism (French) a definite asset.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- May be required to sit for extended periods.
- May be required to travel to developing countries, sometimes for more than 1 week and potentially deal with adverse in-country conditions such as a high level of communicable diseases, natural or man-made disasters, poor road conditions and other conditions that may be physically taxing e.g. noise; crowds.
- May be required to support and troubleshoot clinical applications through remote communications e.g. calls to Kallo’s Clinical and Administrative Command Centers.
- Will be required to obtain all immunizations as directed by travel medicine clinic staff applicable to travel to client countries unless there is a medically valid reason for refusal.
