Position Overview
The Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist will build and manage Kallo’s trade compliance policy and programs to ensure compliance with export and import laws and regulations in all countries where Kallo does business.
Accountabilities
- Develop and manage the compliance program to include manual, procedures, and training.
- Create, maintain and adhere to client Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Exceptions to Standard Procedures (ESP’s).
- Develop and manage record keeping and audit process, as well as Broker activity, relevant to imports and exports.
- Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification and program implementation at the material master level including country of origin determination.
- Develop and manage a duty drawback program that identifies both current and future opportunities to reclaim duty paid on imported articles.
- Drafts and submits import/export permits and ruling requests.
- Prepare letters as needed for distribution, suppliers, freight forwarders, brokers, and other parties involved in export transactions.
- Analyze client data and trends to maximize opportunities for business improvement.
- Respond to internal and external enquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import/export related matters.
- Maintain broad knowledge of worldwide trends in logistics and evaluate changes in international trade laws and regulations.
Key Deliverables during First 12 to 24 Months
- Provide insight into the customs broker selection process for Kallo.
- Work with suppliers to determine correct HTS classification and country of origin of all products.
- Create a duty drawback program.
- Create an export compliance program.
- Have a solid track record of on time clearance with no penalties.
Qualifications and Requirements
- University Degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of trade regulations, practices and strategies in Canada
- Experience working with SAP an asset
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and Word
- CCS or CTCS Designation
- Solid communication and analytical skills, including experience communicating with others from different countries and cultures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to execute, multi-task, and deliver on commitments.
- Work effectively in teams and independently, and have demonstrated initiative and creativity when solving problems.
- Flexible with the ability to meet deadlines and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
- Bring a great attitude that inspires others.
- Travel will be required to customer sites and Kallo office locations.
